Charges – Domestic violence – Malak

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to domestic violence and assault police offences in Malak yesterday.

On 7 January 2022, a 27-year-old male allegedly assaulted his 23-year-old female partner in Driver.

He allegedly further assaulted her on 15 March and 21 November 2022. After every incident he has fled prior to police arrival and has been actively avoiding apprehension by police.

Police officers from Strike Force Lyra located the man yesterday in Malak. During the arrest, he allegedly struck one of the officers in the face.

The 27-year-old was later charged with:

•          2 x Aggravated assault

•          1 x Choking/strangulation

•          1 x Resist police

•          1 x Assault police

He was remanded to appear before Darwin Local Court today. 

Sergeant Caragh Hen said “This behaviour is completely reprehensible. Domestic and family violence has no place in our communities and neither do assaults on our officers.

Strike Force Lyra will continue to target repeat domestic and family violence offenders as a priority.
