A 21-year-old man who assaulted a 35-year-old woman in a shopping centre car park has been arrested and charged by Northern Territory Police.

On Monday 16 May just after 3pm, a woman was walking into a shopping centre where she was allegedly assaulted by a man unknown to her.

The woman suffered bruising and pain as a result of the assault and later reported it to police.

Investigating officers identified the man, who was located yesterday walking along the Stuart Highway south of the Gap.

Police arrested the man who has since been charged with one count of Aggravated assault. He was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court today.

Acting Superintendent Rob Engels said, “Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance in identifying the male.

“Police urge anyone who witnesses this sort of behaviour to contact police on 131 444 or in an emergency 000.”
