Northern Territory police have charged a youth in relation to a number of property offences around Casuarina and Nightcliff yesterday.

Around 4:30am, a number of youths damaged a shopping centre on Bradshaw Terrace before unlawfully entering the premises. The group caused further damage before stealing a quantity of cash and fleeing the scene.

Shortly after, the group was observed in a nearby carpark where they allegedly caused damage to another business, unlawfully entering and stealing items before again fleeing the scene.

Around 7:30am, the same group was observed in Coconut Grove at a carpark on Dick Ward Drive. The group allegedly threatened a man with an edged weapon and attempted to steal his vehicle. The man sounded his horn and the youths all fled.

Detectives from Strike Force Trident identified one of the offenders and around 12pm yesterday, a 15-year-old male was arrested in Casuarina.

He has since been charged with:

  • 1 x Assault with attempt to steal
  • 2 x damage property
  • 3 x unlawful entry
  • 2 x stealing
  • 1 x trespass

He was remanded to appear in court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said, “Investigations into these incidents are ongoing as police work to identify the remaining offenders.
