Arrests – Aggravated robbery – Tennant Creek

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested seven people linked to an Aggravated Robbery and two separate unlawful entries in Tennant Creek yesterday.

Around 4am, an 84-year-old woman was awoken when she heard noises outside her residence. A group comprising of adults and youths forced their way inside the woman’s house.

One of the adult offenders allegedly pushed the woman over and threatened her before the group fled the scene with her television and other property.

A short time later, police received reports of intruders inside a business on Paterson Street. Members immediately attended and cordoned off the area.

One adult and two youths were located inside the premise and arrested. Police observed a further two youths and two adults near the scene. They were all spoken to and linked to the robbery at the woman’s home.

All seven, aged between 11 and 25 years old, were arrested and taken to the Tennant Creek Police Station and later charged with a number of property offences including Aggravated Robbery and Deprivation of Liberty.

Five of the offenders, including two youths, were remanded into custody. Two others were granted bail to appear before the Youth Justice Court.

Police executed search warrants, recovering and returning all of the stolen property.

Detective Sergeant Marek Hutchinson-Goncz said: “A number of these alleged offenders are known to police and this isn’t the first time they have committed serious crimes targeting this residence”

“It’s a sad reality for this woman, who is yet to recover from a recent robbery, but now has experienced another within a space of nine days”.

“Police will continue to show zero tolerance for this type of offending.”
