Arrest – Property offences – Greater Darwin Region

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 16-year-old teenager in relation to multiple property offences across the Greater Darwin Region.

It is alleged that last month the teenager took part in four incidents involving unlawful entries, damage to property and a stolen motor vehicle.

Just after midday yesterday, Dog Ops spotted the 16-year-old riding a bike on Young Street, Alawa. They attempted to stop the youth who took off on a bike, before he dumped it on Lakeside Drive and fled on foot.

Patrol Dog Wedge and his handler Senior Constable Unwin were deployed to track the youth through several yards before successfully flushing him out and into the path of waiting police officers.

He was arrested and taken to Palmerston Watch house, where he was charged with:

  • Unlawful entry x 2

  • Attempt unlawful entry x 1

  • Aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle x 1

  • Stealing x 1

  • Damage to property x 3

  • Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed x 1

  • Breach of suspended sentence x 1

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Humphries said: “If not for the assistance of Patrol Dog Wedge, it is highly likely that the youth would be still at large.

“His speed and nimbleness at jumping over fences far outmatched that of all the attending police officers.”
