Arrest – Drug and firearms offences – Pinelands

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to drug and firearms offences in Pinelands yesterday.

Shortly before 5pm, Drug and Organised Crime members apprehended a vehicle travelling along the Stuart Highway, driving in a dangerous manner.

The vehicle was subsequently searched and a .38 calibre revolver, ammunition, more than $20,000 in cash and a traffickable quantity of methamphetamine were located.

The 32-year-old male driver was arrested and charged with:

  • Possess / use firearm whilst licensed
  • Unregistered firearm
  • Possess ammunition without a license
  • Fail to meet storage requirements
  • Possess / receive property commission of offence
  • Possess schedule 1 less than traffickable quantity
  • Supply schedule 1 less than commercial quantity

He was remanded to appear before Darwin Local Court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne Newell said, “This is fantastic work by our members who apprehended the driver and as a result have disrupted his operation. 

“We take community safety very seriously and removing unlawful firearms and illicit drugs from the hands of criminals is our priority.”
