Arrest– Assault and property crime – Darwin

Northern Territory Police have arrested a youth in relation to a number of incidents in Darwin overnight.

At around 9:30pm, a 16-year-old male allegedly threatened staff with an edged weapon at a business in Anula. He then allegedly threw a blunt object at one of the employees before fleeing the scene.

A short time later, the male allegedly assaulted a staff member at a complex in Marrara, before damaging property and fleeing the scene.

At around 10:40pm, the male allegedly attempted to rob a victim in a carpark before entering a business on Bradshaw Terrace and stealing food.

Detectives from Strike Force Trident arrested the youth a short time later outside Royal Darwin Hospital.

He is expected to be charged later today with:

  • 2 x Assault with intent to steal
  • 1 x Aggravated assault
  • 1 x Assault
  • 1 x Damage to property
  • 1 x Stealing
  • 2 x Disorderly in a public place

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said, “This was a particularly violent series of incidents that occurred over a short period of time with general duties and Strike Force Trident able to locate the offender quickly, and bring him into custody.

“We encourage anyone who witnesses violent behaviour to contact police on 131 444 or in an emergency call 000.”
