UPDATE: Charges – Assault police - Darwin

Police

Northern Territory Police have made a number of additional arrests and issued infringement notices for riotous behaviour at a protest in Darwin last Saturday.

Two men aged, 29 and 36, have been charged with:

•          Assault police

•          Take part in a riot

•          Breach CHO directions

They were both bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on 7 December 2021, and 16 December 2021 respectively.

A 42-year-old man was issued a Notice to Appear for:

•          Assault police

•          Take part in a riot

•          Breach CHO directions

He is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on 8 December 2021.

Two men, aged 31 and 28, have been issued a Notice to Appear for:

•          Hinder police

•          Take part in a riot

•          Breach CHO directions

Both are due in Darwin Local Court on 9 December 2021, and 7 December 2021, respectively.

A 58-year-old man was charged with:

•          Assault police

He was also served a firearms licence suspension notice resulting in the seizure of 32 firearms and a large amount of ammunition.

He was bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on 16 December 2021.

 Detective Superintendent Peter Kennon said, “The violent protest on Saturday is still being investigated, our efforts will now expand specifically to those who were acting in contravention of the CHO directions.

“Assaults on our officers won’t be tolerated, neither will blatant disregard for public health and safety.”
