Northern Territory Police have commenced an air and land search for a woman reported overdue from a hike in the Heavy Tree region.

The 76-year-old woman from Alice Springs was walking with a friend at Mt Johns Ridge when he lost sight of her around 2pm. He searched without success before raising the alarm.

Police immediately launched an air search using helicopter and drone.

The woman is described as fit and healthy, however she does not have food or water with her. She is described as Caucasian with grey-blonde hair, green eyes and a very fair complexion.

The woman was wearing a grey long-sleeved shirt over a pink shirt, yellow pants and a hat.

Watch Commander Vicki Koum said, “Given the freezing temperatures at night and the fact this woman has no provisions with her, we hold serious concerns for her welfare. We immediately commenced the search while there was still daylight, but have had no luck finding her.”

Anybody who was in the Heavy Tree Gap area since 9:30 this morning or who has information regarding this lady’s whereabouts is urged to contact police on 131 444 immediately. Please quote reference 9728063.
