Northern Territory Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Jabiru overnight.
Just before midnight, police were notified of a single vehicle crash involving a Toyota station wagon. The 37-year-old male driver of the 4-wheel-drive crashed and rolled the vehicle at the intersection of Waterhouse Road and Civic Drive.
A 58-year-old male passenger died at the scene while the driver and another passenger were conveyed to the local clinic with non-life-threatening injuries.
The injured driver tested positive for alcohol and has since been transferred to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.
Detectives from Major Crash Investigations Unit have travelled to Jabiru and are investigating the crash.
Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said, “Tragically, this is yet another preventable death occurring on NT roads and has resulted in significant trauma for the man’s family and friends in the lead-up to Christmas.
“Major Crash detectives remain on scene in Jabiru. At this stage of the investigation, it is apparent that alcohol and speed are contributing factors involved in this crash.
“As we approach the festive season, this should serve as a warning to all who continue to drink drive and expose others and themselves to the risk of serious injury or death.”
