Northern Territory Police hold concerns for a man who has been reported as missing from a remote community in the Barkly region.
Police were notified this morning that Harold Morton, 47-years-old had walked off into bushland from the remote community of Alpurrurulam just before 12pm yesterday.
Harold, who is described as being an Aboriginal man with a slim build, was wearing a blue sleeveless shirt, blue shorts and thongs and was last seen walking towards the airstrip by community members, yesterday morning.
Residents attempted to track Harold by following his footprints but abandoned their search after becoming fatigued.
Police hold concerns for Harold’s welfare as it is unknown if he has any food or water provisions and temperatures in the area are expected to drop to 12 degrees overnight.
An air and land search of the area began this afternoon and additional tracking skills by an Aboriginal Community Police Officer from Tennant Creek, will assist members with the search.
Police cannot rule out the possibility that Harold has been picked up on the side of the road and is travelling in the area in a vehicle. If so, the public are urged to report any possible sightings to Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000.
