Charges - Hit and Run - Wagaman

Police

Northern Territory Police have charged a 32-year-old man following the hit and run fatal crash in Wagaman on Tuesday night.

The 32-year-old man handed himself in to Major Crash detectives who arrested him on Friday night.  The vehicle, a white Toyota Camry, was located and seized soon after.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said driving away after any crash, let alone after hitting a pedestrian, is a callous and cowardly act.

“Detectives received many tips and CCTV from the community throughout the investigation and we thank everyone who assisted.

“The fact is, we were rapidly closing in on this person by the time he attended the police station.

“The public should be reassured that in the Northern Territory – with community support and modern technology such as CCTV – offenders in incidents like this will not avoid being brought to justice.”

The man has been charged with Hit and Run Causing death.

He has been bailed to appear in court on Monday 18 October.
