Charges - Drug Offences - Roper Gulf Region

Northern Territory Police have charged two men in relation to drug offences near Barunga yesterday.

The 23 and 24 year-old males were traveling the East Arnhem Road in a Toyota Hilux when they were apprehended by police at a drug detection checkpoint.

Drug detection dog Diesel was deployed and a traffickable amount of cannabis was located inside the vehicle and on the 24-year-olds person. Further checks resulted in the location of various drug paraphernalia and alcohol, along with the vehicle being unregistered.

The 24-year-old was later charged with:

  • 1 x Supply schedule 2 dangerous drug
  • 1 x Possess schedule 2 dangerous drug traffickable quantity - public place
  • 1 x Bring liquor into an Alcohol Protected Area

The 23-year-old was later charged with:

  • 1 x Supply schedule 2 dangerous drug
  • 1 x Possess schedule 2 dangerous drug traffickable quantity - public place
  • 1 x Drive motor vehicle while unlicensed
  • 1 x Drive unregistered motor vehicle
  • 1 x Drive uninsured motor vehicle
  • 1 x Bring liquor into an Alcohol Protected Area
  • 1 x Drive with prohibited drug in body

Both men were remanded to face Katherine Local Court on the 15 June 2021.
