Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses following an alleged assault in Darwin City yesterday morning.

At around 4:40am, an assault occurred on Mitchell St near the intersection of McLachlan Street. During the assault, a 25-year-old man, fell to the ground and hit his head before the alleged offender fled the scene.

The victim was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital by St John Ambulance for assessment.

Serious Crime detectives are investigating.
