Police

Northern Territory Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a woman was assaulted in Alice Springs this morning.

Around 7:30am it is alleged a woman was chased out of a block of units on Nicker Crescent, by a man who is known to her, before being physically assaulted on the side of the road.

A passing motorist intervened and placed the woman in the safety of her own vehicle before alerting police and trailing the man until police arrived and arrested him.

The 40-year-old man was taken to the Alice Springs Watch House where it is expected he will face Aggravated Assault related charges.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have dash-cam footage from the area at the time the incident occurred, to contact them.

"We have reason to believe there were two motorists – a person driving a small yellow car and a person driving a green station wagon type vehicle, who were travelling in the area at the time the assault occurred,” said Plain Clothes Constable First Class Felix Toutygine

“We’re seeking their assistance as to what they may have witnessed, and any further information which may assist us with our investigations.”
