Bushfire – Advice – Girraween

Fire and Rescue

LOCATION: Vicinity of Girraween Road and Angelsey Rd approx 500m from Girraween School.

ALERT LEVEL: Advice. A fire is active in the area. There is no threat to property at this time. A backburn operation is being conducted by NTFRS.

FIRE TYPE: Bushfire.

STATUS: Contained.

The fire spread is currently contained via backburn and fire crews will remain in the area for several hours.

CURRENT SITUATION: A grass fire has occurred in scrubland to the east of Girraween School. Smoke is being generated from this fire and this will occur for some time. There is smoke impacting Girraween Rd and this is forecast for several hours. 

RISKS FACED BY PEOPLE IN THE AREA: Smoke from this fire may affect visibility. Active fire may occur close to the roadside. Firefighting crews may be working close to the roadside.

ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC: For the safety of firefighting crews and other vehicles, drivers in the area are urged to slow down, turn on headlights and drive safely for the conditions. If a fire is threatening life or property, call 000 immediately.
