Aggravated assault - Barkly region

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to an aggravated assault incident in which a woman suffered a head injury, in the Barkly region overnight.

The man and woman, both aged 35, were at an outstation when an argument broke out and the man allegedly struck the woman to the back of the head with an edged object.

The woman sustained a serious head injury, and was transported to the Tennant Creek Hospital before being medivaced to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Community residents located the man, who had fled into nearby bushland, and held him until police arrived where he subsequently arrested and transported to the Tennant Creek Watch House.

Tennant Creek Investigations Unit are conducting inquiries in relation to this incident with charges expected to be laid later today.
