Update 2 – Missing person – Katherine

Police

The search for Victorian man Daymon Ness missing in the Katherine area will be suspended today.

Mr Ness, 30, has not been seen since he went for a walk alone in Nitmiluk National Park on Tuesday 20 October.

Northern Territory Police have led an extensive search of the area together with Parks and Wildlife staff and NT Emergency Services, undertaking ground searches, fixed and rotary wing searches, drones and water searches, but have not been able to locate Mr Ness.

The search included some 28 people over five days, in hot and dangerous conditions.

“We have had to make this decision to call off the search, however the case remains open,” Superintendent Daniel Shean said. “We are still asking that if anyone knows or has seen anything that may lead us to Mr Ness, to please come forward.”

Mr Ness’s parents are currently quarantining in Howard Springs and have been kept abreast of the search. They are being provided support services. Another family member has travelled to Katherine from Queensland and has also been included in family briefings.

“This has been a trying and challenging time for all involved and I’d like to thank everyone for their sensitivity and professionalism,” Superintendent Shean said.
