Suspicious vehicle fire - Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police are treating a vehicle fire in Alice Springs on the weekend as suspicious.

An occupant told police he woke up to see three young men in the front yard of his home on Erumba Street around 6am on Sunday. The 30-year-old man allegedly chased the men east along Erumba Street and down a laneway into Rotaract Park, before returning to find his vehicle on fire.

The man used a garden hose in an attempt to douse the fire until firefighting crews arrived and successfully extinguished the blaze which destroyed the vehicle.

The area was declared a crime scene by Police and Fire Investigators who are treating the fire as suspicious.

Police have conducted door knocks in the area and urge anyone with information which may assist with investigations, to contact police on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
