Firearms seized – East Arnhem Land

Northern Territory Police have summonsed four people to court for firearms offences.

At about 7:00am on Monday 11 May, police attended a campsite in an alcohol protected area. Police located numerous cans of alcohol and a loaded and unsecured firearm. A 27-year-old man was identified as the owner of the firearm and did not have his firearms license in his possession. The man was cautioned and police seized the .30-06 rifle.

Police later conducted a firearms inspection at the residence of a 43-year-old man and 39-year-old woman.

Police seized six guns from the residence:

  • Winchester .30-30
  • Winchester .243
  • Miroku .22
  • Marlin .30-30
  • Marlin .45-70
  • Barton & Co 12-gauge.

Today, police conducted a traffic apprehension on a vehicle and located two 12-gauge shotguns in the possession of a 34-year-old man. The two firearms, registered to the 39-year-old woman, were seized along with ammunition. The driver was issued a traffic infringement notice when his vehicle was found to be unsafe and unregistered.

Police seized an additional firearm from another residence following a firearms inspection. In total, police seized 10 firearms and 61 rounds of ammunition. Investigations are ongoing.

The four local residents are due to appear in court on Tuesday 16 June 2020.
