Fatal crashes - Central Desert and West Arnhem

Northern Territory Police have responded to two fatal crashes over the weekend.

At around midnight on Sunday 23 August 2020, police attended a single vehicle crash approximately 160kms west of Alice Springs. Police believe the driver of the vehicle had lost control on a bend in the road.  A 39-year-old female passenger died at the scene.   

The 44-year-old male driver and three children, aged 9, 10 and 16, were conveyed from a local health clinic to Alice Springs Hospital with minor injuries.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the cause of the crash.

About 6pm, police attended another single vehicle crash approximately 82kms west of Maningrida. Initial reports suggest the vehicle had left the road and hit a tree. Emergency service crews attended however, sadly a 7-year-old girl died at the scene.

Two woman, aged 26 and 42, and a 5-year-old child were conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit are travelling to the location this morning to determine the circumstances of the crash.

Reports will be prepared for the coroner.
