Extradition – Historical sexual offences – Darwin

Police

Northern Territory Police are extraditing a 61-year-old male to Darwin to face historical charges for sexual offences.

Detectives from the Sex Crimes Section travelled to Queensland to arrest the male who failed to appear in court to face the original charges in 1998. The extradition follows renewed investigations through Operation Verto. Operation Verto was implemented by Northern Territory Police to revisit historical sexual assault court cases where arrest warrants had been issued for the nominated offender.

The man will arrive in Darwin this afternoon. He is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on Thursday 13 February.

He was charged with:

  • sexual intercourse without consent
  • indecent dealing with a child under 16
