Northern Territory Police are investigating the drowning death of a child in a remote community west of Alice Springs.

Local workers in the community located the child unresponsive in a public pool earlier today.

Attempts to resuscitate the child were unsuccessful.

Detectives are travelling to the community to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
