Two people have died in a serious traffic crash in the Palmerston area overnight.
Around 11pm, two vehicles were travelling on Roystonea Avenue near the Lamberick Avenue intersection when they collided.
The driver of one vehicle, a 34 year old woman, died at scene.
Witnesses of the crash were able to remove a 21-year-old male passenger in the other vehicle prior to police arrival. The man was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 20-year-old man, was trapped inside the car with the vehicle on fire.
Police at the scene managed to extinguish the fire, and Fire and Rescue members extracted the driver, who died at the scene.
Motorists are advised of road closures in the area and to seek alternate routes while the Major Crash Investigation conducts further investigations.
Fives lives have now been lost on Northern Territory roads for this reporting period.
