Northern Territory Police have charged a 39-year-old man following a vehicle pursuit on Wednesday 5 August 2020.

At 1:40pm, police were travelling along Bagot Road when they observed a vehicle weaving through traffic at 120km/h in a 70km/h zone. Police activated their sirens and commenced a pursuit through Ludmilla, The Narrows and Winnellie. The vehicle narrowly missed a vehicle on Stuart Highway, The Narrows, and the pursuit was terminated at the Airport Gates.

Police sighted the vehicle a short time later on Amy Johnson Drive then apprehended the driver in Leanyer. The man was tested for alcohol and returned a positive reading of 0.145 BrAC.

He was charged with:

  • drive medium range blood alcohol content
  • drive vehicle recklessly
  • fail to comply with directions of police
  • exceed speed limit by over 45km/h.

He has been bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on Thursday 3 September 2020.

Senior Constable Kevin Carr said, “Due to the manner of driving it was lucky that no accidents occurred involving other road users”.
