Charges – Drug offences – Alawa

Northern Territory Police have arrested two people for drug offences.

At about 10:00am on Monday 8 June, police conducted a traffic apprehension on Lakeside Drive, Alawa. Seven people were in the vehicle and none of them were wearing seatbelts.

While talking to the vehicle occupants, police observed the smell of cannabis. One of the passengers was found to have cannabis on his person.

A vehicle search located 14 large clip seal bags of cannabis plant material weighing approximately 403 grams, $4810.00 and additional clip seal bags.

Police enquiries found that the cannabis was destined for a remote community.

The 36-year-old male driver and a 24-year-old female passenger were arrested for drugs offences.

The man was charged with:

  • possess schedule 2 dangerous drug – traffickable quantity
  • supply schedule 2 dangerous drug - less than commercial quantity - Indigenous community
  • receive or possess property in commission of offence
  • drive unregistered motor vehicle
  • drive uninsured motor vehicle.

The woman was charged with:

  • possess schedule 2 dangerous drug – traffickable quantity
  • supply schedule 2 dangerous drug - less than commercial quantity - Indigenous community
  • receive or possess property in commission of offence.

Both were bailed to appear in court on Tuesday 14 July 2020.

Five traffic infringement notices and one drug infringement notice were also issued.
