Northern Territory Police have charged a 53-year-old man following an alleged serious assault in Malak on Tuesday.  

At around 4:50am, police were called to a residence in Malak to remove the man after an argument had escalated.

The man has returned to the residence a short time later and assaulted the woman with an edged weapon, causing a punctured lung and significant blood loss.

Police arrested the man and he has been charged with intentionally cause serious harm and aggravated assault.

He was remanded and will appear in Darwin Local Court on 10 February 2021.  

The 47-year-old woman remains in a stable condition at Royal Darwin Hospital.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Warren Scott said, “Operation Sherman targets high risk DV offenders and victims in an effort to reduce domestic violence and make our community a safer place.  This past week, police have attended to a number of domestic violence incidents.

“If you’re a victim of domestic violence or know someone that is experiencing domestic violence, please report it.”
