Arrest – Traffic offences

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 30-year-old woman for traffic offences following a vehicle pursuit overnight.

At about 10:00pm last night, police attempted to apprehend a vehicle on Mitchell Street. As police approached the vehicle, the 30-year-old driver allegedly took off at speed. Police engaged in a short pursuit before losing sight of the vehicle.

A search of the area located the vehicle mounted on a bollard at the intersection of Knuckey and McMinn Street. The driver was sighted walking from the vehicle and appeared to be intoxicated. A 35-year-old male passenger was located in the vehicle without a seatbelt and was unresponsive.

St John Ambulance attended and assessed the pair who did not suffer injuries. The driver was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for toxicology testing.

The driver will be summoned for:

  • drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
  • fail to obey a red light
  • drive without due care
  • drive unregistered motor vehicle.

Other charges will be considered pending toxicology results.

She will appear in Darwin Local Court at a later date.
