Arrest – Aggravated assault

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 28-year-old man following disturbances in a remote community overnight.

Police attended to reports of a disturbance at around 7:30pm. Multiple people were spoken to and no offences were detected. Police established community calm and departed the location.

At 3:30am, police received reports of another disturbance. The reports stated that a 27-year-old man had been injured with a crossbow and a firearm was discharged.

The man suffered injuries to his upper chest and was conveyed to the clinic for treatment. He was medevacked to Darwin by Careflight and remains in a stable condition.

A compound bow and five firearms have been seized. Police are seeking the identity and whereabouts of additional offenders. Investigations continue.

Additional police resources have been deployed to maintain community calm and safety. Witnesses are assisting police with their enquiries.

The 28-year-old remains in custody, with investigations continuing into the alleged aggravated assault of the injured man.
