Update 2 - Missing person - Alice Springs

Police

Northern Territory Police are appealing to motorists who travelled in the areas of Barrett Drive and Ross Highway on January 1 and 2 to contact them in relation to missing woman, Monika Billen.

Police received further information from members of the public which placed Ms Billen in these areas not long after she was last seen by hotel staff at her accommodation on January 1.

“Members of the public have provided us with further information, which has assisted with our investigation, said Supt Vicary

“The search continues with our aerial assets searching vast areas over the Ross Highway, Emily Gap, Tunks Road, Barrett Drive and surrounding areas.

“At this stage we believe Ms Billen left the hotel accommodation on Barrett Drive around 10:30am on January 1, walked across the road and headed south on Barrett Drive along the Todd River.

“What we are trying to clarify is if she walked or if she used transport to get to Emily Gap.

“We have a witness who say they saw her at Emily Gap that afternoon, but I cannot confirm if she stayed there the night.”

On January 2 it is alleged a motorist saw Ms Billen looking dehydrated and a disorientated at the intersection of Undoolya Road and Sturt Terrace. The motorists stopped and offered Ms Billen a lift and water, and Ms Billen accepted but declined the water.

She requested to be dropped off at Olive Pink on Barrett Drive and that was where she was last seen.

Police are calling for anyone who was in these areas or may have dash-cam footage that could assist with investigations to contact them.

Officers using drones will continue to conduct aerial sweeps of the Barrett Drive and Olive Pink areas to narrow down the searching parameters.

If Monika is not located by tonight, police will conduct further searches of the area tomorrow.

Updated information provided to police yesterday indicates Ms Billen wore a yellow cashmere scarf over her head and shoulders to protect against the sun and heat.

Police urge anyone who may have seen Ms Billen or have any information as to her whereabouts to please contact them on 131 444.
