Two Fatal Crashes - Darwin Region

Police

The Northern Territory Road Toll has risen to 19 following two separate fatal crashes in the Greater Darwin Region earlier this afternoon.

Shortly before 4:20pm this afternoon, a motorcycle travelling along Priest Circuit in Gray has left the road and collided with a light pole. The 52 year-old male rider was treated on scene but unfortunately died as a result of his injuries.

At about 4:45pm this afternoon, a waste collection truck collided with multiple vehicles on McMillans Road in Berrimah trapping a 51 year-old female driver in a small hatchback. Emergency crews worked to free the woman and provided treatment on scene but unfortunately she died as a result of her injuries.

Major Crash Detectives are investigating the circumstances of both crashes and will prepare reports for the Coroner.

Territory Duty Officer, Superintendent Virginia Read said, “It has been an absolutely tragic afternoon on our roads, our condolences go out to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives today.”

“I want to urge all Territorians to take care on our roads, every life lost on our roads is one too many,” she said.
