Two charged following methamphetamine seizures

Northern Territory Police have charged two people following the seizure of a large quantity of methamphetamine.

Police apprehended a vehicle being driven by a 35-year-old man in the Darwin CBD on 20 September. A search of the vehicle located a trafficable quantity of methamphetamine and $3050 cash. The man was arrested at the scene.

As a result, Darwin general duties officers along with detectives from the Drug and Organised Crime Section conducted a search warrant at a hotel room the man was staying at. Police located approximately 560 grams of methamphetamine, $11,340 cash and several items consistent with the supply of drugs.  During the course of the search a 28-year-old woman entered the room, and she was subsequently arrested.

Drug and Organised Crime Section officers executed a further search warrant at the man’s place of residence where they located additional items indicative of large scale drug supply.

The man has been charged with:

  • Supply Schedule 1 Dangerous Drug - Commercial Quantity
  • Possess Schedule 1 Dangerous Drug - Commercial Quantity
  • Possess Property Received From The Commission Of An Offence
  • Possess Thing To Administer Dangerous Drug
  • Resist Police

The woman has been charged with:

  • Supply Schedule 1 Dangerous Drug - Commercial Quantity
  • Possess Schedule 1 Dangerous Drug - Commercial Quantity
  • Possess Schedule 2 Dangerous Drug - Less Than Traffickable Quantity
  • Possess Property Received From The Commission Of An Offence
  • Possess Thing To Administer Dangerous Drug.

Detective Senior Sergeant Morgan said, “This is a significant drug seizure. The outstanding work by Drug and Organised Crime Detectives and general duties members has resulted in removing a large quantity of drugs from the streets of Darwin. Drug and Organised Crime Detectives will continue to work with both internal and external partners to prevent the distribution of illicit substances in the Northern Territory.”

Both are due to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
