Traffic incidents – Traffic Operations – Darwin

Police

Northern Territory Police Traffic Operations are appealing to the public to drive safely on Top End roads after a series of concerning traffic incidents occurring over the past three days.

On Friday 4 October, 2019 a 32-year-old male was arrested in Winnellie for multiple traffic offences including driving a motor vehicle whilst disqualified, speeding and driving an unregistered / uninsured vehicle. The man had been disqualified from driving for a period of twelve month only two days earlier.

On Saturday 5 October, 2019 a P-Plate driver was apprehended in Berrimah for speeding. The male was caught travelling at 145km per hour in a 100km zone.

In three separate incidents yesterday, a 21-year-old male, a 25-year-old male and a 50-year-old male were arrested for drug driving in Darwin and Palmerston.

Senior Sergeant Angela Stringer said, “Despite all the education and the likelihood of being apprehended for traffic offences there are still some members of our community who continue to run the risk.  It is so disappointing that they disregard the risk to all other road users.  The complete lack of responsibility when behind the wheel of a vehicle is astounding. Leading up to Christmas and into the New Year, Territory Traffic Officers will continue to be out in numbers working towards keeping our road toll down”.
