A French tourist who failed to return from a two hour hike in remote Central Australia yesterday, has been found.

The 64-year-old woman's husband reported her missing to police after she failed to return from a short hike on the Larapinta Trail in the Orminston Gorge area on Thursday.

Search efforts were conducted by police, rangers and emergency services of the area late yesterday and recommenced at first light this morning.

The woman self-presented at the kiosk at 10:40am with no injuries.

Superintendent Jody Nobbs said through the course of inquiries, police identified the missing hiker as an experienced bush walker who had taken water and provisions.

“This clearly assisted her throughout the night and she maintained the ability to find her way back to the kiosk,” said Supt Nobbs

“This serves as a timely reminder to anyone who intends to hike or walk remote parts of Central Australia and its surrounds, to be well prepared by taking enough water and provisions, including a Personal Locator Beacon to assist emergency services in locating them should they become lost.”
