A man has died as a result of single vehicle rollover on the Carpentaria Highway overnight.

A passing motorist came across an overturned vehicle off to the side of the road around 8:30pm, where he located and assisted a 35-year-old driver who appeared to have been thrown from the vehicle. The driver was observed to have sustained serious injuries, but was conscious at that time.

Elliott Police, Health Clinic staff and Fire and Emergency Response crews attended the scene and the driver was transported back to the local clinic for treatment. Tragically he was unable to survive his injuries and died earlier this morning.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The man’s death brings the Territory Road toll to 15 compared to 28 this time last year.
