A man has died in a single vehicle rollover outside of a remote community north east of Alice Springs yesterday.

Just after 5pm Harts Range Police Officers came across a single vehicle crash on the Plenty Highway, 5km east of Harts Range.

The vehicle is alleged to have been involved in an earlier pursuit with police, which was terminated prior to the crash.

The 42-year-old driver who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was thrown from the car and died at the scene. The incident is being treated as a death in custody.

Detectives from Southern Crime Investigations and Major Crash are investigating the circumstances surrounding the cause of the crash on behalf of the Coroner, and as such no further information will be provided at this time.

The death brings the Territory’s road toll to 17, compared to 31 for the same period last year.
