Drug set up busted - Alice Springs

A 30-year-old man who failed to stop after a crash, leading police to his house where they found a hydroponic set up growing cannabis, has been charged.

Around 4:30pm on Sunday, the man was travelling south bound on Telegraph Terrace when he struck a vehicle stopped at a set of traffic lights near the fire station, at speed. The vehicle was shunted to into the right hand lane and its two occupants received minor injuries.

The man failed to stop, instead returning to his residence where police later found and arrested him.

Detectives conducted a search warrant of the man’s residence in The Gap where it is alleged they located a hydroponic set up in a bedroom growing 18 cannabis plants.  

Another cannabis plant was located in the back yard.

The man was arrested and transported to the Alice Springs Watch House where he was later charged with;

  • Cultivate prohibited drug – traffickable quantity
  • Possess a dangerous drug
  • Possess thing – administer dangerous drug
  • Supply drug – not commercial
  • Drive a motorvehicle while unlicensed
  • Drive unregistered/uninsured one month or less
  • Not stop after accident.
