Detectives intercept drugs and deliver a search warrant

On Monday afternoon the 16 September 2019, Detectives from the NT Police Gangs Taskforce intercepted and seized a quantity of dangerous drugs from the Winnellie Post Office.  A search warrant was then executed on a unit in the Darwin CBD, where further drugs, cash and fireworks were seized.

Items seized during this search include a commercial quantity of MDMA, trafficable quantity of cocaine, $17,000 in Australian currency and a large quantity of fireworks.

A 29-year-old male from Darwin will appear at the Darwin Local Court on 30 October 2019, charged with:

  • Possession of a trafficable quantity of MDMA;
  • Possession of a trafficable quantity of cocaine and
  • Possession of dangerous goods (fireworks).

A 21-year-old male also from Darwin was arrested and charged with possession of a commercial quantity of MDMA and has been remanded in custody and will appear at the Darwin Local Court on 18 September 2019.

Detective Senior Sergeant Lee Morgan said, “Police will continue to monitor all methods of illicit substance distribution including use of the mail system.  People that choose to send drugs through the post will eventually be caught, it’s a matter of ‘when’ we find them, not ‘if’.”
