Domestic violence charges - Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have charged a 57-year-old man who threatened a domestic violence witness following an incident in Alice Springs last week.

It is alleged that on Thursday, 3 January the man threatened violence against a woman if she attended court in relation to an aggravated assault matter.

Detectives from the Southern Domestic Violence Prevention Group conducted further enquiries which revealed the man had threatened the woman if she gave evidence. Officers arrested the man yesterday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Gavin Hopwood said NT Police work tirelessly to provide reassurance to the community and those affected by domestic violence.

“Our officers will ensure the perpetrators of domestic and family violence are held accountable for their actions,” he said.

The 57-year-old local man has been remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court today charged with one count each of Breach DVO and Prevent Witness to attend court.
