Two men have been charged after police found them to be driving while under the influence of methamphetamine.
Police allege that around 12:30pm yesterday, a 54-year-old male was apprehended after being observed driving in an erratic manner. He was subjected to a drug saliva test, returning a positive indication for methamphetamine.
The man was arrested and conveyed to the Katherine Watch House where he underwent a drug analysis, returning a positive result for methamphetamine and cannabis.
Shortly afterwards, a 32-year-old driver allegedly returned a positive reading to a drug saliva test. He was arrested and conveyed to the Katherine Watch House, later returning a positive result for cannabis, methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Both males were charged with driving with a prohibited drug in their bodies and their licenses were immediately disqualified.
The 54-year-old is scheduled to appear in the Katherine Local Court on 11 February 2018.
On the same afternoon, a residence in Katherine was searched under a search warrant, with police locating the following items:
- 118.5 grams of cannabis
- 0.2 grams of methamphetamine
- Drug implements
- A quantity of deal bags
- Numerous uncapped syringes
- A quantity of cash
As a result of the search, a 70-year-old male was arrested and conveyed to the Katherine Watch House where he was charged with:
- Possess traffickable quantity of Schedule 2 dangerous drug
- Supply traffickable quantity of Schedule 2 dangerous drug
- Possess property from commission of offence
A second male, the 32-year-old driver who was also apprehended yesterday, was charged with:
- Possess less than traffickable quantity of Schedule 2 dangerous drug
- Possess less than traffickable quantity of Schedule 1 dangerous drug
- Possess thing to administer dangerous drug
- Fail to dispose of syringe
- Unauthorised possession of Schedule 4 substance
The two men are due to appear in the Katherine Local Court on 7 March.
A 64-year-old female who was present due the execution of the search warrant was issued an infringement for possession of a less than traffickable quantity of cannabis.
The 70-year-old male was also issued a drug house notice for the residence.
