An 18-year old man faced court today on charges of assault police and armed with offensive weapon after an incident in Maningrida on Sunday night.
Officers had been called to a disturbance at a residence and the alleged offender attempted to strike an officer with a pair of scissors shortly after she exited the police vehicle.
The officer was able to evade the attempted strike and was not injured.
The police officer is the second emergency worker in the space of two days to be assaulted in the course of their duties.
A 30-year old St John Ambulance paramedic was allegedly struck in the face last night.
A 23-year-old female faced court today on a charge of assault emergency services worker cause harm.
NT Police Assistant Commissioner, Regional Operations and Road Policing, Narelle Beer said assaulting anyone is unacceptable but assaulting those emergency workers who are trying to keep our community safe is unexplainable.

“To hear that one of our policing officers was attacked and assaulted when responding to an incident is appalling. Violent and aggressive behaviour is not tolerated in any circumstances. We want all our emergency service responders to be safe and complete their shift uninjured.”
