Detectives from the NT Police Southern Serious Crime Group are travelling to Alpurrurulam to investigate an alleged aggravated assault which occurred overnight.

Acting Senior Sergeant Gavin Hopwood said the assault was reported to police just before 6.00am this morning.

“A 29-year-old male victim has sustained serious injuries,” Senior Sergeant Hopwood said.

“He has been transferred to hospital in Mt Isa for further treatment for stab wounds.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated. A male is currently in custody and is assisting police with their enquiries.
