Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested four men and a woman in relation to drug, alcohol and traffic offences over the weekend.

Between Friday 6 and Saturday 7 December 2019, members from Daly River and Peppimenarti Police Stations were conducting traffic operations on Daly River Road, Daly River. Four males aged; 20, 31, 32, and 35, and a 22-year-old female were each stopped separately and subjected to a road side breath tests, each returning a positive result ranging from .05 to .26

Members located and seized a total of 365 grams of cannabis and 76 litres of alcohol. It is believed the alcohol and drugs were destined for Wadeye Community.

The five people have been charged in relation to these offences and will appear in court at a later date. The 35-year-old male was remanded in custody and faces additional charges of breaching a domestic violence order.

Acting Commander Hege Burns said, “It is disappointing that people continue to drink and drive placing themselves, family, friends and the wider community at risk of serious injury or death. Bringing alcohol and drugs into our communities is not welcomed.  Substance abuse affects everyone, so any seizure, large or small, helps us keep a safer community.”

Anyone with information on the supply of alcohol or drugs to our communities can call police on 131444 or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
