Arrest – Stealing with violence – Coconut Grove

Serious Crime Detectives are investigating a stealing with violence incident which occurred near a service station on Bagot Road, Coconut Grove, around 4:50am today.

Police received a report from a taxi driver stating his taxi was held up by two Indigenous males with a machete. The two offenders, who are believed to be teenagers, ran off towards Bunnings with the driver’s mobile phone and money. The driver did not sustain any injuries.

Police attended then cordoned off and searched the area however the offenders could not be located. A crime scene has been established and investigations continue.

Serious Crime Detectives arrested a 13-year-old male on Dick Ward Drive around 10:20 this morning. He remains at the Darwin Watch House and is expected to be charged with aggravated robbery. The youth will appear in the Youth Justice Court in Darwin at a later date.

Police are searching for a second person of interest who is believed to be a 15-year-old. Anyone with information in relation to the incident is urged to notify police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Please quote reference number 9055064.
