Police

Two people have died in separate incidents over the weekend involving vehicles.

On Friday evening a 27-year-old man was killed after the vehicle he was travelling in rolled near Borroloola.

Investigators from Central Traffic Operations believe the six occupants of an unregistered Toyota Landcruiser utility were chasing cattle off-road in the vicinity of the Carpentaria Highway when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn.

It is believed the deceased was one of three people occupying the tray. Attempts to revive the man at the scene were unsuccessful.

The 40-year-old driver was evacuated to Royal Darwin Hospital with for multiple fractures to his right arm. Police are investigating what may have caused the accident including whether alcohol was a factor.

On the same evening around 9pm, a female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Alice Springs. The woman, who is yet to be formally identified, passed away at the scene. The 16-year-old driver is assisting police with their enquiries.
