Police from the Territory Major Crash Unit are on the scene of a fatal buggy crash, approximately five kilometres northwest of Daly River Community.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Ordelman said police believe two people were on the buggy when it went over a steep cliff before landing in the creek below.

“Daly River Police were notified just after 11:00pm last night and travelled to the scene where they confirmed a 47-year-old female had died.

“A 53-year-old male has been airlifted to RDH with CareFlight.

“Water Police have assisted with recovery efforts this morning and investigations are continuing,” Detective Senior Sergeant Ordelman said.

The death takes the road toll for 2018 to 19 compared to 11 at the same time last year.
