Charges – Supply Cannabis – Alyangula

Alyangula Police have charged a 39-year-old man for cannabis supply.

Officers from the Dog Operations Unit (DOU) attended Groote Eylandt Airport on 30 November where Drug Detection Dog (DDD) Lena was deployed.

DDD Lena provided a response to the luggage that the male was carrying. A subsequent search by officers located $6300 in cash; $6000 of which police allege was concealed on the man.

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of property - commission of offence
  • Supply Schedule 2 Drug, less than commercial quantity - Indigenous community

He has been bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on 18 December.

In a separate incident a 34-year-old woman has also been charged with supply cannabis.

On 30 November the woman was apprehended at Groote Eylandt Airport where officers from the DOU and DDD Lena detected 150 grams of cannabis.

She was arrested and charged with:

  • Supply Schedule 2 Drug, less than commercial quantity - Indigenous community

She is due to appear in Alyangula Local Court on 18 December.
