Charges - Property Offences - Darwin

Police

Northern Territory Police have charged two males, aged 15 and 16, in relation to alleged property offences and a pursuit.

Sometime after 10:00pm on Friday, 21 December, the males are believed to have stolen a vehicle from an address in Woodroffe.

In the early hours of Saturday, 22 December, the pair attended two business in Pinelands and Winnellie. Entry was forced into both locations and property was stolen.

Around 2:00am on Saturday, 22 December, Darwin Traffic Operations (DTO) officers observed the stolen vehicle run a red light in Winnellie. Police attempted to apprehend the duo however they accelerated away from police.

Police commenced a pursuit and the stolen vehicle continued at high speed.

The youths eventually abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot in Humpty Doo. They were arrested by DTO officers without incident.

The 16-year-old was charged and bailed with:

  • 1x aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • 2x damage to property
  • 2x aggravated unlawful entry (building)
  • 2x stealing
  • 1x fail to stop
  • 1x dangerous driving during a pursuit
  • 1x drive whilst unlicensed
  • 1x proceed beyond red traffic light

The 15-year-old was charged and bailed with:

  • 1x aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • 2x damage to property
  • 2x aggravated unlawful entry (building)
  • 2x stealing

Both are due to appear in Darwin Youth Justice Court on 15 February next year.
