Charges - Prohibited substances - Groote Eylandt

Northern Territory Police have charged a 37-year-old man with drug and alcohol offences after prohibited items were located in his luggage at Groote Eylandt Airport on Monday.

Drug detection dogs Lena and Bear responded to:

  • Six litres of unlawfully possessed liquor
  • 45 grams of cannabis
  • One used bong
  • 100 empty deal bags

 Police allege the man had abandoned his luggage and left the airport, however was charged today with:

  • Supply Schedule 2 drug to Indigenous community (less than commercial quantity)
  • Possess cannabis in a public place
  • Possess thing to administer dangerous drug
  • Bringing liquor into an Alcohol Protected Area
