Charges - Extradition - Historical child sex offences

Police

Northern Territory Police have charged a 78-year-old male with five counts of child related sex offences dating back to the 1970s and 1980s, alleged to have occurred in Arnhem Land.

Upon receiving a complaint in February 2016 by a then-33 year old female, police initiated an 18-month investigation into the claims. The initial complaint led to a second victim.

Members from the Sex Crimes Division travelled to Melbourne to arrest the male who was subsequently extradited to Darwin today.

He has been charged with:

  • 3 counts of indecent dealings with a child; and
  • 2 counts of unlawful carnal knowledge.
